Kid Styles For Rainy Days:
A #ParentingNerd Style Tip
By Go Jackie Go
Rainy days are here again. The wet season not only brings cool breeze but also a certain gloom that affects not only our mood but also the way we dress ourselves and our children. While the usual raincoat, umbrella, and gumboots are essential wet wear for our little fashionistas, a hint of chicness goes a long way.
As a parenting nerd, I am challenged to raise the bar a little bit higher especially when it comes to one of the things I'm passionate about – style. I'm sure you all know by now how my darling daughter Gabbie takes after me when it comes to dressing up. She has her own style and has been choosing her outfits most of the time. She likes to put a little flair in her look, which I think is a good idea to hone her personal style.
So I'm sharing some rainy day style ideas that you can try for your darling daughter.
THE TOMBOY STYLE
Key pieces:
Tank top & button-down shirt - Layering is your best bet on rainy days. While it’s wet weather, its not always cool. This calls for light fabrics that you can layer and still look rain-ready. Just like how li’l Ms. GJG wore her chambray button-down over a tank top.
Leggings - You can never go wrong with leggings. Not only is it a worthy alternative to the good ol' reliable jeans, its one basic bottom that's perfect for your active little one as she can freely tumble and twist in it.
Sneakers - Sneakers are one of the shoes you can let your child wear on a rainy day. They’re built to protect her feet, yet are comfy enough to wear for a day full of fun!
It's always nice to inject color especially on a gloomy day. Let your child be the ray of sunshine and add pops of color to her look.
PARISIAN CHIC
This is one of my favorite rainy day outfits of my darling daughter Gabbie because she styled this herself.
Key pieces:
Skirt - It's an essential in any little girl's wardrobe as it instantly makes any outfit more girly and of course, more adorable!
Tights - One way to wear a skirt on a rainy day is to wear tights underneath. It serves the purpose of protecting your lil' fashionista's legs while still being stylish.
Boots - When letting you child wear tights, always pair it with closed shoes such as ballet flats, sneakers, or boots. Preferably, use a pair that is secured enough so it won't go flying off your child's feet. This way, you avoid any unwanted accidents such as slipping.
THE REBEL SWEETHEART
Key pieces:
Biker Jacket - Add a little spunk to your lil' miss' outfit with a cool biker jacket to keep her warm on a rainy day.
Oversized dress - Put an oversized dress to use and let your child wear it as maxi dress.
Boots - To achieve a rocker chic vibe, wear an equally cool pair of black boots and your lil' one is set to conquer the rainy days in a rebel sweetheart kind of way.
When the sun comes out of hiding, take off the jacket, tie it around her waist, and still you've got yourself a lil' fashionista.
THE PASSIONISTA PRESCHOOLER
Take monochrome to a whole new level! Play with a particular color and mix and match its different shades and textures. This creates a monochrome look without compromising and embedding panache to your darling daughter's ensemble.
Key pieces:
Tweed jacket - The ultimate chic factor when it comes to dressing up on a rainy day. Tweed or any kind of structured topper such as a blazer or a tent coat can make any outfit look polished and well thought of.
Blue jeans - A no-brainer key piece that can be paired with almost anything that tickles your child’s style fancy.
Ballet flats - Rainy days always calls for some indoor activity – one of which is malling for most of us who live in Manila. What better way for your child to walk in style than in trendy ballet flats?
Blue, being one of Gabbie's favorite colors, is something she really likes incorporating in her style. A simple tank top and jeans get an upgrade when paired with a stylish tweed jacket and sparkly ballet shoes – both are a must for a city dweller who loves exploring her neighborhood (aka malls), especially during the rainy season.

You see, rainy days may or may not intentionally bring your spirit down, especially your lil' one's. The best way to face another gloomy day is to dress up and enjoy the cloudburst. So go ahead and show your little one how dressing up lets her explore her own personal style while still having loads of fun. This fail-proof happiness booster makes wet weather a whole lot better. I love that I get to express my being a parenting nerd to my family and they reciprocate it with more hugs and laughter.
